Oh, Sì, il Pizzo

Oddly enough, despite the presence of this blog I have a sudden feeling of non-accomplishment from winter break, so I got out everything I've done (sans xmas gifts, of course) to take a group photo. Of course I forgot about something in the initial photo, so here's the poor unfinished pineapple sweater all by itself.

Well, it's not entirely alone. good old Gally's trying to eat it. Here's everything else:
3 t-shirts resized
1 pair of pants resized (need to be over-dyed)
2 tops built, 1 unfinished
2 oil paintings
5 assorted bits of lace (project in mind for it, haven't found the fabric needed yet)
1 almost hat (as I said, those shapes are hard!)
Oh hey, here's that aforementioned lace...
Totally forgot to post this stuff because I have it up on Ravelry.

Piume e Cappelli! Piume e Cappelli!

All of yesterday was spent carefully trimming feathers to maximise their beauty. In other words- hat shapes are hard!

Chernobyl: o una Casa di Ragazzi

Eww. Is that some poor Soviet state?
Abandoned prison block?
In Chernobyl?

Nope. It's my bathroom. My latest project has been to clean the (admittedly disgusting and neglected) apartment. After a day of vacuuming carpet, scrubbing tiles, refilling fish tanks, and untold ounces of bleach I think I've earned my Star Trek marathon.

Strano Vestito per Dormire

During my daily browsing of Make:online today I came across this crazy/interesting idea.
Buckminster Fuller practiced Dymaxion Sleeping, where one has four 30 minute naps over a period of 24 hours. Architect/ Artist/ Scientist/ Graphic Designer Forrest Jessee thought that he would give this a try, but found that getting to a bed and ready for sleep took almost as much time as the sleep itself. So he developed a "transportable and adjustable cocoon that allows for constant air flow in a variety of different positions and environments." You can get in and out of it in less than a minute and then sleep just about anywhere.

By wrapping the body in rings of EVA foam, it can be used in any position. "In order to determine where structure is needed, both out of necessity and desire, four of the most likely sleeping positions were chosen to map pressure points on the body. The positions included face up, face down, sideways and head down sitting at the desk. The body was positioned and tested in each one of the positions without any cushioning."

Pretty sure you'd look like an absolute loon climbing into your full body foam suit and then just passing out where ever you are. I think the only way to pull it off is to act as if nothing abnormal has happened upon waking up and just go about business as usual.

Tempo la Pittura di Paesaggio

Did a couple of quick little oil paintings today. My bathroom is filling with toxic drying paint fumes at this very moment!

I forgot Blogger loads things in opposite order, so here's the second painting, done from a photo I took out my bedroom window last winter. It looks like fire, but it's just the clouds/mist holding in the street lights.
Florida beach.
One can never have too much plastic when doing questionable projects in an apartment. Especially an all white apartment with light carpet. Last time I painted I taped a whole bunch of plastic grocery bags to everything in my bathroom. As you can see I have since discovered the hardware store.

In Corso

I've been working on a lot of things in the past few days. Since I'm going to Florida to visit my Nana on Sunday I've been trying to get most of my sewing projects done before then. Today wasn't all that productive, on account of free day over at Sparkfun today. I was so excited I didn't really sleep last night, and after I failed to get a bunch of free electronics, I took a nap. Here's what I've got done in the past few days:

This one has been at this stage for quite a while now. Something about building foundations is just not interesting.
Yeah! The white shirt had gotten stretched and ill fitting from use, so now it's rebuilt. I'm really excited on account of this turning out the first time 'round.
First foray into millinery. I did finish this hat, but it is full of fail. On the upside, my completely improvised starching solution works!
This is what I did today. What you see is the third prototype collar for this. I really liked the collar from the Star Trek movie which child Spock has on, and that's what I"m attempting here. I think if I cut an inch off the top all the way around and change the angle of the front edge it'll work out nicely. It's hard to tell with only one layer of fabric though, it's just so flopsy. Oh, and this shirt is getting a bottom, don't worry, I'm not making a cropped jacket.

Fantascienza e il Design della Moda

Science Fiction and Fashion Design

I've always loved both, and tie them together whenever I can. Fortunately it seems legit designers are doing the same thing these days so I don't seem like such a crazy right now. I'm hoping to get as many things built this months as I possibly can before I go back to school and another semester of double metals classes.

I'm really pleased with these two tops. The one on the bottom is all but completed, it just needs a foundation so it'll stay that way on a moving body. The middle design will be done in this amazing fabric I picked up in Paris a year ago.

The top here is how I've finally resolved to rebuild an old 1/2 sleeve tshirt that's gotten streched and uninteresting, but has the most fantastic print. I've already tried to build the armadillo hat in the top left, but it looks like you're wearing a bunch of tams on top of each other, which is both unfortunate and stupid. The hat on the bottom, however, has me so excited to get building you wouldn't believe.

Some belt designs and jacket mods I sketched when I was supposed to be coming up with a jewellery concept for class.

The Jacket Page! Probably my favourite page of my sketchbook. I've got the first draft of a pattern for the one in the bottom right corner, but still no fabric for it!

None of this is getting built, but I still think that dress is pretty badass.

Circo Dell' Arte! Circus of Arts

It's only fitting that Circo dell' Arte start off with arte dello circo. Here are 4 of the best images from my circus themed photo project shot in Cortona, Italy. The complete project is 16 images.
