Cofano Modello Misterioso

Been trying to work out the pattern for the bonnet I posted earlier:

I'm having trouble figuring out how this was put together.  I've asked my millinery professor, and what he thinks is different from my guesses here, but he's also said he's not quite sure how it was done.   It'd be helpful of there were other images of it.
